FTP students once again made Universitas Brawijaya (UB) proud in the national arena. Through the National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTIN) at the University of Jember, students of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology won 2nd place for their innovation. They are Salsabila Zahidati, Daisy and Nadia Milarosa, 2017 Agricultural Product Technology (THP) students.
This work was born under the guidance of Wenny Bekti Sunarharum, STP., M. Food, ST., Ph.D, they created a ready food (RTD) drink made from bananas and pumpkins. This drink can be an option to replace one portion because it contains high fiber and satiates nutrients that are suitable for daily needs. Another function of this drink is a reduction in obesity rates and improved insulin production contained in pumpkin seeds which can improve pancreatic cells so as to increase the number of people with diabetes.
Salsabila stated that this research was conducted by a survey conducted to 60 students of Universitas Brawijaya who stated that 45% of respondents more often ate about their busy lives. Salsabila and her team also measured the prevalence of diabetics and obesity in Indonesia, which suffered a lot by people of productive age. The tendency of Indonesian people who like to consume food and drink encourages salsabila and the team to make ready-to-drink beverages (RTD) which have a positive influence on health. In this competition, Universitas Brawijaya team faced participants from many well-known universities such as UNDIP, UGM, UNHAS, UMS and many more.
