Not only did they excel in scientific writing competitions, FTP students also excelled in the prestigious business case competition organized by one of the leading multinational companies, Unilever. This achievement was achieved by Lindyca Celine Maima Manik (THP 2016) who won the 2nd Runner Up for Group Winner in the Unilever Future Leader League 2019. In this competition, Celine and her team from UGM and ITB compete with many participants from various leading universities such as UNDIP, BINUS, UI, Prasetya Mulya University and others to get the opportunity to represent Unilever Indonesia in the Global Round of Future Leaders in London, English. Unilever Future Leader League is a global business competition that provides space for students throughout Indonesia, to provide their best solutions in solving various business problems that exist related to unilever products.
To reach the final stage is not easy. Participants must go through various stages of selection starting from the selection curriculum vitae (CV) and uploading a 3-minute video containing the completion of a case given by Unilever. Subsequently selected 34 students from all over Indonesia and then will be randomized into various teams, one team consisting of 3-4 people.
Celine explained that the business case given by Unilever for UFLL this year was Buavita. Together with his business coach at Unilever, Celine and the team gave birth to the idea of making a buavita boost product consisting of 3 variants, extra nutrition and more attractive packaging. This idea was born because it was inspired by the dynamic lifestyle of millennials. Millennial finally become their target market. Celine explained that the challenge that her team faced in this competition was how her team was able to package the idea with facts that occurred with buavita in the market and make it happen as a new product development that supported the campaign’s idea. With his hard work, his team was chosen to enter the semifinals. They were given the opportunity to present their ideas to top management who are experienced with buavita products at Graha Unilever.
There are various aspects of the assessment in this competition, namely the suitability of the idea with the given business case, creativity, presentation, and teamwork. Celine acknowledged that the key to her success was teamwork. They have very limited time to come up with bright ideas. Celine revealed that “nothing is impossible when we think of being able to do great things. No matter where you come from, the most important thing is how you can break the limits. Only do your best, the rest will let God determine”. (Din)
