Herbal plant extracts from the ancient manuscript of the Sasak Tribe, Lombok Island brought four Brawijaya University students from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology to discover the potential of anti-cervical cancer herbal medicine.

The team consisted of Hairil Fiqri (FTP 2015), Adzani Gaisani Arda (FTP 2016), and Khodijah Adrebi (FTP 2017) under the guidance of Mr Rahma Micho Widyanto S.Si, MP 8 tested what they had to do.

Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that attacks a woman’s cervix, this cancer is the second largest type of cancer among Indonesian women. In this study, this cancer penetrated 48.8% of all patients in Indonesia.

“Lombok is my birth island, where in one tribe called the Sasak tribe, I consider compiling all types of diseases to refer to ancient relics with the usontian manuscript. This is a historical heritage that is sought and used as a reference. Therefore, we carry out exploration “one of the plants that is considered a Jamblang plant,” explained Hairil Fiqri as team leader.
Departing from that, the ANTICANCERVIX team uses extracts of jamblang leaves then performs 8 tests and finds antioxidant contamination as flavonoids and phenolics in Jamblang leaf extract.

They added that the last test, which was an in vitro test with HeLa cells as a representative of cervical cancer cells, showed an inhibitory reaction in HeLa cell growth.

Data analysis performed showed positive results from Jamblang leaf extract can prevent free radicals from HeLa cell growth. This can be denied “Jamblang Leaf Extract Potentially used as Anti-Radical Free and Anti-Cervical Cancer”.
