UB lecturer guides banana processed SMEs in Sanenrejo – Jember

The doctoral team serving Universitas Brawijaya again cooperates with thematic KKN and Meru Betiri National Park (TNMB) in implementing community service program (PkM) in a village in the tnmb area. One of the villages in focus is Sanenrejo Village, which is one of the buffer villages of Meru Betiri National Park. Sanenrejo village has several community groups formed to strengthen efforts to improve mutual welfare, one of which is the Betiri Sejahtera Lestari (BSL) community group. BSL community group is a community group engaged in livestock chaired by Mr. Paeman.

In addition to the business in the field of livestock, Mr. Paeman also has another business in the field of food, namely producing banana chips with several flavor variations. The banana chips business is managed by Mr. Paeman and his wife Mrs. Siti Nur. The business went well and generated profits that were used to help supplement income. However, there are still some shortcomings that need to be improved such as financial management, product legality, and the production process itself, namely the product packaging. Packaging of banana chips products with a size of one Bale still uses manual packaging, namely candles. The next problem is for packaging products using plastic standing pouch size 250 grams purchased from online stores so it requires more cost. In addition, innovation of processed food products made from local bananas is needed with the aim of developing existing processed products.

Dissemination activities of banana processed product business management and automatic packaging machines through technical guidance as well as direct practice are efforts to overcome limited understanding of the business problems. This technical guidance activity aims to provide guidance to business actors and equip participants with knowledge about how automated packaging technology can provide a significant competitive advantage in business operations. Through this technical guidance, the participants were given in-depth information about business management strategies, including aspects of production to the packaging process, marketing, and product development.

In collaboration with Mr. Meru Betiri, Mrs. Rini Yulianingsih, STP, MT, PhD from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology assisted by a team of Universitas Brawijaya, including Dr. Fitria Dina Riana, STP, MP from the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Eng. Elya Mufidah, S.Pi, MP from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Dr. Premy Puspitawati Rahayu, S.Pt, MP from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, and Ibu Dewi Noor Fatikhah Rokhimakhumullah, SE, MSA, Ak from the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, and six students of Universitas Brawijaya from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and the Faculty of animal husbandry.

In addition to providing machine assistance as a form of dissemination of proven technology and implementing a series of technical guidance materials, the Brawijaya University team also distributed guidance modules that are in line with the material and will regularly check the progress of the implementation of activities as a form of assistance during the adjustment period, both technologically, economically, and the availability of resources.

This technical guidance activity is expected to have a positive impact that participants have gained insights and tools that will help them develop their business better, while increasing productivity and quality of processed banana products in this area. By becoming more skilled in business management, local entrepreneurs are expected to compete better in the market and contribute to sustainable local economic growth.

We thank all those who have contributed to the success of this technical guidance activity, and hope that more and more similar initiatives can move the regional economy.

“Hopefully after this livestock activities, fertilizer management, and processing of banana chips that we live can develop well and faster.” finally.

Mr. Bahruddin, as Forest police supervisor and head of Sanenrejo Resort Management TN Meru Betiri gave high appreciation to the Brawijaya University team in providing assistance and implementation of guidance activities for community sustainability in Sanenrejo Village. He hopes that this collaboration will continue.
