English for Specific Purpose or commonly called ESP is one of the Student Student Institutions at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology. ESP aims to bring together FTP students who study English together and hold English-based events and competitions. Currently ESP is chaired by Adriel THP 2016. This year ESP is holding its 5th Great Event with various events. The series of events are ESP Open Debating Conference, N1 Acreditation, International Scholarship and Talkshow. One of the series of events, the Open Debating Competition, chaired by Anin 2017 THP students, was held successfully and smoothly. The debate event was held from 2-4 August 2019 in the Hall of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Brawijaya. The ESP Open Debating Competition event carries the theme “Expanding Knowledge and Ideas Through Fairplay and Sportmanship”. The debate competition was attended by 8 participants for 3 rounds, namely first prelimenery, second prelimenery and final debate. ESP Open Debating Competition 2019 invited 3 judges, they were Mr. Al-Kindy from the Bandung Institute of Technology, Brother Adam Rifqi from the University of Indonesia, and Jessica Bella Situmeang from Brawijaya University. The announcement of the winners was held on Sunday, August 4, 2019. The winners of the ESP Open Debating Competition were Ansellmus Pasilla Gala as the First Champion, Mariane Williamson Energy as the second winner, and Ah Enak as the third winner. In addition, there were the winners of the best speakers, Noel Hasitongan, Firsttolia Larasati, and Rizki Isnorhadi. The ESP Open Debating Comoptition (EODC) event was successful and lively. With the EODC event it is expected to be able to improve students’ soft skills in communicating with English especially to formally express an argument in a forum. In addition, to introduce LKM especially ESP to other parties outside the campus. (ER)
